Visited last Sunday January 26th, 2020 the Museum aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht that presents a retrospective exhibition of Jimmy Nelson. The exhibition ‘Homage to Humanity’ offers an extensive and colourful selection of portraits of indigenous cultures from around the globe.
The festive opening of this exhibition is the official fresh start of Museum aan het Vrijthof as a new and specialized museum for photography in the south of the Netherlands.
The exhibition is Jimmy Nelson’s largest museum exhibition in the Netherlands so far. More than forty photographs can be seen in the monumental museum, including work that has never been shown before. In addition, supporting videos, books and travel stories are presented. Visitors are invited to go on a journey with the photographer to discover the most secluded places and unique cultures in the world. If you use the companion app on your phone or tablet you receive also a lot of information via video and sound, so don’t forget to bring your headset.
Please find below the invitation folder (however in Dutch)
Find below also some photo’s made with my mobile of those glorious pictures of Jimmy. Converted myself the photo of the little girl in black/white. Just look at their face expresion, marvelous how Jimmy captured pride and strenght in one picture and fear in the other. This is for me finding the right moment to capture.
